Herb - Oregano Commonly called the "pizza herb," fresh oregano is always better than dried when possible. Strip the leaves from the stem and discard the stem (unless using as a bouquet garnish). Oregano goes well in just about any tomato dish and also compliments meats and vegetables. Garlic, onion, thyme, basil, parsley, and olive oil are common complimentary seasoning partners.
Herb - Rosemary To grow rosemary at home, be sure the plant has good drainage. Rosemary likes to be moist, but hates sitting in water. Rosemary likes humidity and sun. Use this herb in pork, fish, and chicken dishes. Even try steaming red potatoes with one tablespoon of fresh rosemary, add butter if you prefer, and serve! Rosemary is extremely high in iron, calcium, and Vitamin B6
Herb - Lemon Thyme Lemon thyme is a particular variety of thyme that has distinct lemon scent and a sweeter flavor than regular thyme. Great with fish, chicken, and egg dishes. Thyme is slow to release its flavors and is usually added early in the cooking process. The lemony smell and variegated leaves make a beautiful plant even when not using for culinary purposes!
Herb - Basil It's the leaves of the plant that are used in cooking, and these leaves can range from green to reddish to purple in color, depending on the variety. For best flavor, the leaves should be picked before the plant begins to flower. Basil is the ultimate compliment to tomatoes, and also pairs beautifully with onions, garlic, and olives.
