Zucchini is a prolific producer and a couple plants should do in your own garden. Zucchini can be planted on a “hill” or mound and likes well drained soil. If your soil is poor or last year’s crop was sub-par, a little fertilizer should significantly improve the health and size of harvest.

Asparagus spears grow from a crown that is planted about a foot deep in sandy soils. An asparagus planting is usually not harvested for the first 3 years after the crowns are planted allowing the crown to develop a strong fibrous root system. A well cared for asparagus planting will generally produce for about 15 years without being replanted. Also, the larger the diameter, the better the quality.
Onions, like garlic, are members of the Allium family, and both are rich in sulfur-containing compounds that are responsible for their odor and their many health promoting benefits. Onions are one of the most used vegetables in the kitchen, which is a great reason to grow your own.
There are many kinds of hot peppers including Cayenne, Habanero, Hungarian Wax, and Jalapeno. Ranging from mild to extremely hot, there is a variety for every palette. Always use caution when handling hot peppers by using gloves. Never touch your face near your eyes, mouth or nasal passages after handling a hot pepper.
